UP CM Yogi Adityanath (Twitter)
In a major development, Uttar Pradesh has become first state in the country to cross the 5 crore covid-19 vaccination mark as more than 26 lakh vaccines shots were administered on Tuesday during the mega drive.
Making the development public, the office of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath tweeted (as translated from Hindi), "Under the guidance of respected Prime Minister and CM Shri @myogiadityanath, the campaign of Covid vaccination is going on continuously. Today a record 26,03,631 people have been vaccinated by the UP government and with this a total of 5,13,02,185 citizens have been vaccinated so far in the state."
Notably, the state government had set a target to administer 20 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses during a special drive yesterday. Over 12,000 centres were operating in the state for the mega campaign. However, it not only just achieved the target, it surpassed it by over 30 per cent.
Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had set the target of vaccinating one crore people in one month in June, the target was achieved much before the end of the month.
