The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government in a late night decision on Monday (29 July) sent a formal request to the Union Government for the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) probe into the case of Rae Bareli accident suffered by the survivor of the Unnao rape case and her family members, reports The Hindu.
Ahead of the state government's decision to hand over the case to CBI, an FIR was also registered against jailed BJP MLA from Unnao Kuldeep Singh Sengar who is facing the charges of gang rape.
The FIR also mentions nine other persons including MLA Sengar's brother Manoj, his aides, and 15-20 other unidentified persons. The FIR against Sengar was lodged at the Gurbakshganj police station in Rae Bareli on a complaint from the survivor’s uncle.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
