In a major boost for Uttar Pradesh (UP)'s push for manufacturing in the State, the Government on Friday (9 October) allotted about 700 plots to a host of apparel, handicraft, toy manufacturers and MSMEs near the upcoming Jewar international airport, reports Economic Times.

The move is likely to materialise into an investment of as much as Rs 28,000-30,000 crore.

It should be noted that while the State Government's Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) had invited applications from industries to set up manufacturing units on a total of 1,050 acres. From applications received, it had shortlisted 2,290.

Out of the total, 108 plots have been allotted to domestic toy manufacturers which include leading players like FunZoo, Ankit Toys, Toy Treasurers and Funride which had applied for the plots. YEIDA has estimated that once operationalised, the toy manufacturing hob alone is likely to create 25,000 jobs. Also, 63 allotments have been made under the startup category.

In total, the units are likely to create around 7,00,000 jobs in the area. With the signing of the concession agreement for the development of Jewar airport, authorities expect more interest in subsequent schemes in the region.
