The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police have booked Twitter India's chief Manish Maheshwari in connection with the platform portraying a wrong map of India on its website, reports Hindustan Times.

Along with Maheshwari, one Amrita Tripathi has been booked under Section 505(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 74 of the IT (Amendment) Act, 2008.

As per details shared by Bulandshahr senior superintendent of police (SSP) Santosh Kumar Singh, the FIR against the two was lodged by a lawyer Praveen Bhati for showing the wrong map of India.

Meanwhile, the case has been registered on the complaint of a Bajrang Dal leader in Bulandsahr.

The development relates to an incorrect map of India which appeared on the career section of the Twitter website earlier last weekend. The map showed Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, as a separate country.

Following the massive uproar, Twitter got rid of the incorrect map of India from its website late Monday (28 June) night.

Meanwhile, UP Police has already issued a summons against Maheshwari for questioning in connection with a misleading video of an elderly Muslim man being assaulted in the Loni area of Ghaziabad district. The platform was also issued a second notice by Ghaziabad Police to seek “account details” of the suspects accused by the Police of posting and promoting the video.
