UP Tops List Of States With Highest Electric Vehicle Sales In FY21, Followed By Bihar And Karnataka

Uttar Pradesh (UP) has emerged as the top state in the country in the sale of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in the in the financial year 2020-21, according to CEEW Centre for Energy Finance (CEEW-CEF)'s electric mobility dashboard, reports Economic Times.

While the total EV registered in the country in FY21 was nearly 1.35 lakh, UP alone contributed about 23 per cent of the total with the sale of 31,584 EVs. UP was followed by Bihar and Karnataka in the EV sale.

It should also be noted that the top ten states together comprised 88 per cent of all the EVs sold in India in FY21. Also, of these, Tripura leads all the states in terms of the number of EVs per 1,000 internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. The Northeastern state saw 52 EVs being sold for every 1,000 ICE vehicles sold in FY21.

The CEEW-CEF's data also showed that two-wheeler and three-wheeler EVs accounted for nearly 96 per cent of the electric mobility market in FY21.

While three-wheelers made up 65 per cent of all sales, two-wheelers made up another 30 per cent of the sales. It should also be noted that two-wheeler EV sales rose by a factor of 1.6 during the year, from 24,839 units in FY20 to 40,837 units in FY21.
