Candidates eligible for the 10 per cent EWS quota for the General Category in 2019 civil services exam would be able to avail the quota benefit for this year’s exam, The Print has reported.

The report though claims that it is unclear whether the EWS candidates would be able to get relaxation in age limit and number of attempts.

Currently, a Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) candidate gets a relaxed age limit of 37 years and unlimited attempts and an Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidate gets nine attempts which can be given till the age of 35.

As opposed to that, the General Category candidates get six attempts till the age of 32. Now following the implementation of the EWS quota, eligible General Category students have been asking UPSC whether they too will get any sort of a relaxation.

As per officials quoted in the report, a final call in this matter would be taken by Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) which is the nodal agency of UPSC. The report also claims that the benefit would only cover the 10 per cent quota.
