The prelims question paper of UPSC Civil Service 2019 in a way bucked the trends set in the previous years by testing a candidate’s concepts as opposed to posing traditional questions, The Hindu has reported.
As per the report, the prelims questions were different from previous years and as a result the cut-off is expected to be in the range of 95-105 as per estimates of various coaching academies and experts.
The exam was dominated by questions from economic and social development, geography, history, general science, Indian polity and governance, environment and ecology, general knowledge and current affairs.
What sets this years’ paper apart was an added emphasis on science and technology, unconventional questions and an added emphasis on legislature in polity. The paper has also been considered tougher as compared to the previous years. The paper was also reportedly designed in a manner that
The report quotes experts to predict that the cutoff for the general category may be between 100 to 105. For EWS category it is expected to be 98-100, 99 to 103 for OBC and 80 to 85 for SC and ST.
