Justifying the arrest of the five alleged ‘Urban Naxals’, the Pune police presented documents at the court on Wednesday (29 August) which refers to an alleged plan to consolidate the most militant among the Dalit and Muslim forces to overthrow the “Brahmanical” and Hindu forces reported The Indian Express.

“A proposal for initiating an All India Anti Fascist Front” as the document is titled, calls for the mobilisation of ‘militant’ sections of people and setting up bases at villages, small towns and cities.

This document like several other produced by the police is said to have been seized from an earlier set of five activists who were arrested by the Pune police on 6 June in Multi-city operation and are now in Yerawada Jail.

The details of the document were not read out in the court by the prosecutor, claimed the report.

Public Prosecutor Ujjwala Pawar argued that the five arrested people — Gautam Navlakha, Sudha Bharadwaj, Varavara Rao, Arun Ferreira and Vernon Gonsalves — were “active members” of the banned Communist Party of India (CPI)-Maoist and part of a conspiracy to set up an “Anti Fascist Front” to overthrow the elected government.

The said document reportedly calls for the consolidation of Dalit forces already taking shape in south Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, and that Muslim minority forces in Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra were giving “militant training to hundreds of cadres”.

Documents produced in the court shows that the idea of setting up the front was mooted in a meeting of Eastern Regional Bureau(ERB) of the CPI-Maoist or ERB Vistaar Baithak, which was held from 21 to 24 December 2015.

In the meeting, concerns were allegedly raised over the rise of “Bhramanwadi Hindu Fasivadi” (Brahminical Hindu Fascist) forces because of the victory of “RSS-backed” BJP in the 2014 general elections.
