In a setback for Pakistan, the Islamic republic has been called out in the United States (US)' list of Countries of Particular Concern (CCP) for engaging in or tolerating "systemic and egregious violations of religious freedom", reports Asian News International (ANI).
Also, other than Pakistan, President Xi Jinping led China has also been mentioned in the list of 10 nations which have been highlighted by the US' Department of State for their failure to stop the persecution and discrimination of people based on their religion.
Announcing the names of these nations, Secretary Michael Pompeo said, "The US will continue to work tirelessly to end religiously motivated abuses and persecution around the world, and to help ensure that each person, everywhere, at all times, has the right to live according to the dictates of conscience."
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
