Badly hit by the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, the United States (US)' second-largest theatre chain operator Regal Cinemas is considering to close down all of its 543 theatres in the country, reports news agency ANI.

Owned by British company Cineworld, Regal Cinemas has as many as 7,155 screens in its 543 theatres spread across 42 States of the US. It had recently re-opened up a few of its theatres wherever it could, just before the release of Warner Bros' release of Christopher Nolan-directed film 'Tenet'.

Large theatre chains are known to depend on blockbuster and big-ticket releases to sustain operations.

Not only has it been hit by fewer viewers who are hesitating to see movies by coming out, but also because the studios are continuing to delay the release of big films amid the pandemic.

The development was made public by Cineworld, which in a tweet from its official handle confirmed that it was considering a temporary closing down of its United Kingdom (US) and US cinemas, even though a final decision has not yet been arrived at.

However, it should be noted that Cineworld is likely to keep fifty of Regal Cinemas' theatres operational during the weekend hours.
