The United States (US) has slammed the Islamic Republic of Pakistan for allowing candidates affiliated to renowned and sanctioned terrorist outfits like Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) to contest its last general elections, reports Livemint.

The US State Department's Country Report on Terrorism for the year 2018 which was published on Friday (1 November) also said that the government of Pakistan had failed to restrain the ability of LeT and JeM to raise funds, and to recruit individuals and to train them on Pakistan's soil.

The report said that Pakistani government "allowed candidates overtly affiliated with the LeT front organisations to contest” the July 2018 general elections.

The report also stressed on Pakistan’s failure to implement the Action Plan forwarded by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to curb money laundering and terror financing by Pakistan-based individuals and entities.

The State Department's report has also slammed Pakistan for failing to implement the sanctions proscribed by the United Nations against the home-grown terror outfits like aforementioned LeT, and individuals and organisations affiliated to it.
