Using DBT, Centre Transfers Rs 28,256 Crore To Over Bank Accounts Of 30 Crore People During Lockdown

Leveraging on the JAM trinity established in the first term of the Modi Government, the centre has successfully transferred Rs 28,256 crore as financial assistance to the bank accounts of more than 30 crore poor people under the Pradhan Mantri (PM) Garib Kalyan Yojana which was announced to cushion the harsh impact of the nationwide lockdown on the vulnerable sections, reports Economic Times.

The PM Garib Kalyan Yojana had been announced by Union Minister for Finance Nirmala Sitharaman last month as a Rs 1.70 lakh crore relief package comprising both, cash doles and free food grains for the poor of the nation to mitigate their hardships.

Using the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) infrastructure, Rs 13,855 crore has been transferred to the accounts of nearly 6.93 crore farmers out of the eight crore farmers who have been enrolled under the PM-Kisan scheme as their first instalment of Rs 2,000 under the scheme.

Further, Rs 500 each have been transferred to the Jan Dhan accounts of as many as 19.86 crore women, totalling a sum to Rs 9,930 crore. About Rs 1,400 crore has also been transferred to the accounts of about 2.82 crore old age persons, widows and disabled persons under the National Social Assistance Programme.

Furthermore, as many as 2.16 crore construction workers have received a sum of Rs 3,066 crore from the Building and Construction Worker's Fund which is managed by the State Governments.
