Uttar Pradesh: PM Modi To Launch Rs 5,555 Crore Rural Drinking And Water Supply Projects In Mirzapur And Sonbhadra

In a major boost for Uttar Pradesh (UP)'s Vindhyanchal region, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi is set to launch rural drinking and water supply projects worth Rs 5,555 crore in the State's Mirzapur and Sonbhadra districts, reports Economic Times.
The projects are slated to be completed within two years, and once completed these would provide piped water supply to over 42 lakh people in 2,995 villages of the two districts.
Total 1,606 of these villages are located in Mirzapur and are home to as many as 21,87,980 villagers. Other 1,389 villages lie in the Sonbhadra district which is home to 19,53,458 beneficiary villagers.
The development gains much significance as Vindhyanchal along with Bundelkhand is one of the nation's most water-scarce regions.
The Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath led State Government has already formed the water and sanitation committees whose members will shoulder the onus of maintaining and operating the water supply lines and systems.
