Uttar Pradesh Police Prepares Database Of Those Participating In Farmer Protests, Union Leaders Fear Legal Action

A database of all the people who went to Ghazipur protest site from the villages of western Uttar Pradesh is being prepared by Uttar Pradesh police, reports The Times of India.

The farmer union leaders believe that this massive exercise will culminate into legal action against farmers for standing up to the three agriculture reform laws. They also claim that police are forcing families of the protesting families to ask their kin to return home.

Most of the protesters at the Ghazipur protest site which is located in Ghaziabad district hails from Uttar Pradesh.

“For the last two months, we are appealing to farmers to abstain from moving towards Delhi. Preventive actions are being taken to curb mass movement to Delhi border points. Police teams are going to villages to prepare a database of people who are camping at Delhi borders. Section 144 has been imposed by Ghaziabad administration. People camping at the Ghazipur border need to leave the protest site and come back home,” Inspector general of police of Agra range, A Satish Ganesh, told The Times of India.

However Shahjahanpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) S Anand told The Times of India that they had recorded the information about the protesters who went to attend the 16 January tractor rally through their sources just for maintaining information. In case Delhi Police finds any of the protesters involved in the violence and need the help in finding them, then Uttar Pradesh police will provide necessary support. He further said that they are not putting any pressure on anyone’s family members to force them to return home.
