Uttar Pradesh: Varanasi To Get Waste-To-Energy Plant Soon; NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Invites Bids

Uttar Pradesh's (UP) Varanasi is set to soon get a waste to energy (WTE) plant which will have the capacity to segregate as much as 600 tonnes per day (TPD) of fresh municipal solid waste (MSW), reports The Economic Times.
State-owned power sector-major NTPC's wholly-owned subsidiary NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited has invited online bids under a "two-stage" bidding process. The bidding will conclude on 27 July, and the plant is expected to be commissioned in the city's Ramna area by 30 September 2022.
In addition to these, the human exposure at the WTE plant will be limited, with a fair amount of automation processes being deployed to carry out several operations and maintenance processes.
It should be noted that NTPC has already installed a pilot torrefaction plant at Dadri. The said plant uses agriculture residue or MSW as feedstock. The said plant was commissioned in March 2020 and presently produces charcoal with a GCV in the range of 4,000-5,000 kcal/kg.
