The Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat on Thursday (19 September) visited the holy Himalayan shrine of Shri Badrinath in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district and offered prayers at the temple, reports ANI.

The Army chief, accompanied by his wife Madhulika Rawat, arrived in the Badrinath town via air route. He was received by the local Army and Police administration and was later welcomed by the chief executive of Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee BD Singh.

Later, he visited Shri Badrinath temple where he took the darshan of Lord Badrinath and performed the Vedic rituals that lasted for 15 minutes.

"The chief prayed for the well being of the world and country's national security. I am very delighted with his gesture. The world shall see India achieve great heights in the future," priest Bhuvan Chand Uniyal was quoted in the report as saying.

"He also offered libations of water to the gods at the temple as this shrine is famous for the same. The chief was very happy with the whole ritual he performed here. He also prayed for the wellness of the region's river flow so that the region does not get affected by the floods anymore", the priest added.

After his visit to the holy shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Army Chief then visited Gangotri temple in Uttarkashi district of the state.

Earlier on Wednesday (18 September), General Rawat visited Shri Kedarnath temple in the Rudraprayag district of the state and offered prayers at the shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.
