In its efforts to aid the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, India is continuing to supply COVID-19 vaccines to nations across the world under its Vaccine Maitri initiative.

Latin American nation Paraguay is the latest to receive a consignment of 1,00,000 doses of the indigenously developed Covaxin, reports Hindustan Times.

The development was made public by External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar on social media platform Twitter.

"Never too far for friendship. Made in India vaccines arrive in Paraguay," Jaishankar tweeted on Wednesday (29 March).

Meanwhile, the Paraguay's Health Ministry thanked India for providing the vaccines.

It should be noted that India has so far supplied over 638.81 lakh doses of vaccines to over 75 countries.

Developed by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech in close collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) and Pune based National Institute of Virology (NIV), Covaxin is the only indigenous COVID-19 vaccine developed in India so far, with several others in the pipeline.
