Hyderabad Twin Blasts Case: Court Set To Give Verdict Eleven Years After Two Explosions Killed 42 

The verdict in the Hyderabad twin blasts case of 2007 will be pronounced today (4 September) at a special court hall set up at the Cherlapally central prison, where five of the eight accused are lodged.

The judgement was to be pronounced on 27 August, two days after the eleventh anniversary of the blast that killed 42 people and injured 68. As reported by The New Indian Express, the Sessions court had deferred the judgement as the verdict was not ready due to the voluminous nature of the case.

Investigations had revealed the involvement of eight persons, all alleged operatives of the Indian Mujahideen, in the planning and execution of the two bomb blasts at Gokul chat and Lumbini park. Of these eight accused, two - the Bhatkal brothers - are absconding. The remaining five accused - Akbar Ismail Choudhary, Aneeq Shafeeq Sayeed, Mohammed Taariq Anjum Ahsan, Farookh Sharfuddin Tarkash and Sadiq Israr Ahmed Sheikh - were arrested by the Counter Intelligence wing of the Telangana Police.

Security has been beefed up in the city ahead of the verdict.

Having waited for the judgement day for over a decade, victims are hoping that the court will announce stringent punishment for the accused.

“I lost my entire career after I was injured in the Gokul Chat blast. My family and I pray to the God that the accused must get stringent punishment,” said Syed Raheem (67), a painter, who lost his left eye in the blast, as quoted by The Hindu.
