A debt ridden mechanical contractor in Hindustan shipyard has invented a rescue device for saving children who have fallen into the borewell, reports TNIE.

S Hemanth Raja developmed the Borewell Rescue Saving Mechanical Equipment (BRSME) that uses a pulley, mechanical arms and foot pedal, a camera and an LED light.

Raja was intrigued by an incident in Ikka reddy gudem village where a 18 month old girl fell into 450 feet deep borewell and died. After the incident he was encouraged to make a rescue device.

He has also patented the equipment and process. Raja and team have made a working prototype and had a test run with a dummy already.

"Oxygen can also be sent through assisstive devices. When the infant is found, the pulley grabs him with the help of mechanical arms. With the help of another device, he can be saved from falling while being pulled upwards.” added Raja.

The Fire Department Director General K Satyanarayana said the equipment the equipment is advanced when compared to the one with NDRF, and parallel digging takes very long time.
