Wagle Ki Duniya

At a time when sections of Indian and foreign media are indulging in spreading misinformation on India's Covid vaccine programme, the new avatar of "Wagle Ki Duniya" -- a family comedy sitcom that was popular on Doordarshan three days ago and members of its cast are doing their bit to spread to make a dent in the trend.

The initiative is a welcome move in the current scenario.

Veteran actor Aanjjan Srivastav has been at the forefront in the promotional advertisements of the sitcom as well as in real life in support of the vaccine and India's vaccine programme to defeat the coronavirus.

Another clip comes with a hilarious and witty take on a character named Nandu Nadkarni -- who is spreading misinformation -- discouraging Mr Wagle from taking the vaccine. Mrs Wagle is shown fretting at the misinformation that his husband is consuming at the expense of safety from the virus.

She tells him their son Raju (seen in the other promo) has registered them for the vaccine.

Mr Wagle informs her that "Nandu Nadkarni" has called the vaccine "fraud" and "bakwas" and has even forwarded a video and a relating post to support the claim.

She clears the misinformation for him and adds a funny bit. She tells me that Nandu Nadkarni was spreading misinformation even at the time of demonitisation and was saying that the Rs 2,000 had a computer chip. She urges him to not believe fake news. She even puns on "chip" and "cheap".
The same promo takes up the issue of posting fake news on the society group via a messaging service.
