Waitlisted Passenger? New Rules To Now Ensure TTE Allots Berths Without Much Ado

From January 2019, the information of a cancelled ticket, even from its original destination, will be directly sent to the TTE. The Piyush Goyal-led Railway Ministry announced this decision in order to facilitate passenger-friendly amenities and services. This would allow vacated berths or seats to be immediately given to the waitlisted passengers on the following stations.
The TTE, until now, used to wait for the next two stations after seeing an empty seat. The passengers weren’t even to get their confirmed accommodation, despite the train having vacant seats. The refund process, moreover, was initiated after the display was put out for the TTE.
The move has been already initiated in some Shatabdi and Rajdhani Express trains. The work of bringing TTEs together will be done in two phases, as it would be difficult for the national transporter to provide a large number of hand-held terminal devices. Furthermore, the process of refund on cancellation will also begin immediately, as reported by Financial Express.
After the implementation of the process on all Shatabdi, Rajdhani and Duronto Express trains, the TTEs of all other Mail and Express trains would be given the hand-held terminal devices.
