An war memorial has been built at Arunachal Pradesh's Bum La in the honour of Subedar Joginder Singh of the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment who had been conferred with the highest gallantry honour of 'Param Vir Chakra' for his role in the eastern theatre during the 1962 India-China war, reports Economic Times.
The war memorial was inaugurated on Friday (23 October), coinciding with the date in 1962 when the Battle of Tongpen La (Bum La) had taken place. Singh had made the supreme sacrifice at the same location.
P Khongsai, Public Relation Officer (Defence) Guwahati, said that the war memorial has been constructed under the patronage of the Arunachal Pradesh government with the efforts of CM Pema Khandu.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Khandu said that the memorial was a befitting tribute to Subedar Joginder Singh and his comrades who had made the supreme sacrifice in the 1962 war.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
