Talking to the press about the situation in the state ahead of Independence Day tomorrow (15 August), Additional Director General Police, Jammu & Kashmir, Munir Khan stated that all required security arrangements were in place.
When he was questioned about his message to the people of Kashmir, he replied that they should “celebrate 15th August, Dabake (with full enthusiasm)“.
Much of the Kashmir Valley currently has Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) imposed, which prevents large gatherings of people to prevent law and order disturbances. Additional deployments of security forces and strict checks are in place considering the recent revocation of Articles 370 and 35A which took away the state’s special status.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
