Tap water reaches two far-flung villages in the North East.

In a video tweeted by Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, a woman from Assam is seen doing prayer to welcome the tap water.

“This sister from Assam is welcoming ‘Nal Se Jal’ into her house by bowing her head to thank God. This video is evidence that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Jal Jeevan Mission is transforming the lives of people who lack basic water facilities even after so many years of independence,” the minister tweeted.

Jal Jeevan Mission is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water to all households in rural India by 2024 through individual household tap connections.

While India has around 19 crore households, just 3.2 crore households have got piped water connection as of August 2019. With Jal Jeevan Mission - Har Ghar Jal, the number of households with tap water connections is now almost doubled to 6.3 crore.

Quoting the tweet, political commentator Prof Abhinav Prakash said “Modi is ensuring piped water supply to tens of millions of people and some think they can ‘overthrow him like Trump’ by adopting tactics instigating anarchy and polarisation. No amount of anti-CAA riots or farmer protests will help. Give up on replicating BLM and Antifa in India.”

Netizens have opined that the Narendra Modi government successfully ensuring piped water to millions of households may give rise to another Modi wave in 2024 general elections.
