Policemen were attacked in West Bengal’s Howrah city after they went to enforce lockdown in a Covid-19 containment zone.
A video of the incident was shared by India Today journalist Indrojit.
In the video, a cop can be seen getting chased away while hoards of people give chase.
As per a Times Now report, the mob also vandalised police cars and a police station in Howrah was pelted with bricks. A large force was soon rushed at the spot to restore normalcy.
The incident reportedly happened at around 5.30 PM today (28 April) at the Tikiapara police outpost, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Howrah City Police.
Despite the area being a red zone with restrictions on people’s movement, a mob outnumbering the cops launched an attack.
During the airing of the Times Now report, at least 30 to 40 people kept crowding the streets in a violation of mandated social distancing and lockdown norms.
