The fifth batch of the Rafale fighter aircraft arrive in India on Wednesday (21 April) from France.

The Rafale fighter jets took off from Merignac air base in France and covered a distance of around 8,000 km before landing in India.

The Indian Air Force thanked the air forces of French and United Arab Emirates for providing air-to-air refuelling support to the Rafale aircraft during the journey.

"After a direct ferry from Merignac Air Base, France, the 5th batch of Rafales arrived in India on 21 April. The fighters flew a distance of almost 8,000Kms with air-to-air refuelling support by French Air Force and UAE Air Force," the IAF said on Wednesday.

The development comes as the IAF chief R K S Bhadauria is on a five-day visit to France to further expand cooperation between the two countries.

The Rafale combat aircraft is manufactured by French company Dassault Aviation.

Earlier on 31 March, the fourth batch of the three IAF Rafales landed at the Jamnagar base after a direct flight from Istres Air Base in France.
