Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman went hammer and tongs against the ‘khandaan’ while addressing the Lok Sabha today (4 January), calling out the Congress party’s sloganeering in the house.
Highlight of the Defence Minister’s speech in the House (via DD News/Youtube):
Visibly upset with the slogans raised in the House questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other ministers of the BJP, she responded saying that, “I don't have a 'khandan' to boast on. PM also comes from a poor background. He has come here from hard work. I have my honour intact. PM has his honour intact. We have all come from normal backgrounds.”
She also took a shot at the Congress President Rahul Gandhi for having winked at the Prime Minister, an act that was condemned by many as conduct unbecoming of the Parliament.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
