Still from Shaheen Bagh protest
Shaheen Bagh which is seeing continual protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has been in the news for the wrong reasons with one of its organisers Sharjeel Imam who demanded that “Assam be cut off from India”.
The protesters have also been accused of fear-mongering and brainwashing kids and even assaulted a journalist after he reached there to report on the protest.
The event though is now in the news on a lighter note after a bunch of activists decided to perform a protest song and dance on stage which was lampooned by many social media users.
The song which seeks to attack the ruling central government by singing that it will get a “befitting reply” soon and vowed not to stop their dissent.
A similar video was also posted by the same twitter user which was hosted by the JNU teachers association during an anti-CAA protest, but the venue remains unclear.
This protest skit though was ridiculed by many social media users.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
