In a Bharatvaarta podcast, Shailesh Pathak, the CEO of L&T Infrastructure Development Projects shared his insights in the needs and opportunities for Indian infrastructure.

An alumnus of IIM Calcutta, Pathak has, in the past, worked in leadership roles with leading firms like Srei, IDFC and ICICI. He also served the Indian Administrative Service for 16 years running projects to build roads, power plants, tiger habitats and dams – notably the projects linked to the Sardar Sarovar dam.

From his unique vantage point, having served both the government and the private sector, Pathak, a distinctive and unique personality, explains the challenges, opportunities, best practices, as well as what the future holds for Indian infrastructure.

In an hour-long discussion, Pathak cover the following topics:

  • Global best practices that can be used in India
  • Different models adopted by various states
  • Last-mile infrastructure: How to create linked infrastructure
  • How can central and state governments make city administration better?
  • How can we make our cities more human friendly?
  • Evolving capabilities in infrastructure projects
  • Construction of infrastructure projects: What can we change?
  • How to manage disputes and encourage private participation
  • National Infrastructure Pipeline: Is it realistic?
  • Financing vs. Execution: What can be improved?
  • Personal experiences from the Sardar Sarovar Dam project
  • How will the Indian infrastructure develop in the next 10 years?

Since Pathak has personally run some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country as both a senior government official and high-placed corporate executive, his views are simple yet deep; elegant as well as interesting. Readers can check out more such content by Bharatvaarta here.
