Smart Camps in Ladakh
Smart camps for Indian Army troops deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh are ready for use as winter sets in.
The Indian Army has deployed over 50,000 troops in the region to counter China’s salami slicing of Indian territory along the LAC.
These camps are required as temperature dips substantially in Ladakh during the winters, often reaching 40 degrees below the freezing point.
During the peak winter months between December and February, the region receives several feet of snow (30 to 40 feet).
These camps have been built as part of an infrastructure drive in Ladakh over the last few months to ease the movement of troops and make survival easy for them during the harsh winters between November and March.
These camps, officials say, have electricity, water and heating arrangements.
With no solution on the cards, the standoff between India and China in eastern Ladakh is likely to continue through the winters. Indian troops will remain deployed on heights as temperature dips below the freezing point.
