Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has assured customers that there will not be any disruption of TV services due to the new broadcast rules that come into force after 29 December (2018), reports Mint.

“The Authority is seized of the matter and hereby advises that all Broadcasters/DPOs (distribution platform operators)/LCOs (local cable operators), will ensure that any channel that a consumer is watching today is not discontinued on December 29,” said a released by the regulator.

In order to promote transparency and provide greater choices to consumers, TRAI had overhauled the regulatory framework for Broadcasting and Cable services and brought in a new regime that would allow customers to only pay for those channels that they watch.

“Keeping in view the interest of the subscribers, and to enable a smooth transition, the Authority is preparing a detailed migration plan for all the existing subscribers. The migration plan will provide ample opportunity to each and every subscriber for making informed choice,” it added.

“First of all I want to make it clear that your channels will not go off-air on December 29, nothing of this sort will happen. The main purpose of our new regulations is that the consumers get the channels they want to watch and not 200-300 channels,” said TRAI Secretary to IndiaTV.
