The Indian Navy, in its response to Pakistan Navy’s claims of spotting an Indian submarine on Wednesday (4 March), has said that it does not take “cognizance of such propaganda” and that its deployments remain “undeterred”.

In a statement on Tuesday (5 March), the Navy said that, “as was stated during the Joint press conference on 28 February 2019, it remains deployed as necessary to protect national maritime interests.”

“Over the past several days, we have witnessed Pakistan indulging in false propaganda and spread of misinformation. The Indian Navy does not take cognizance of such propaganda. Our deployments remain undeterred,” the statement read.

Earlier, the Pakistani Navy had claimed to have “detected” and “thwarted” and attempt by the Indian Navy submarine to enter Pakistani waters.

"The Pakistan Navy used its specialised skills to ward off the submarine, successfully keeping it from entering Pakistani waters,” a Pakistani Navy spokesperson said, as reported by India Today.

He added that the Pakistani Navy did not target the Indian submarine in view of “Pakistan’s policy of peace”.

The Pakistani Navy also released a video allegedly of the Indian submarine. However, the authenticity of the video is in question as it has similarities to a video put out by Pakistan in November 2016.

The development comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan over the Indian air strike on Jaish-e-Mohammed terror camp in Balakot inside Pakistani territory.
