West Bengal Again Tops In Crime Rate By Foreigners As Mamata Continues Her Opposition Against NRC

According to the recently released 2018 National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, West Bengal topped among states that have recorded a significant number of crimes committed by foreigners. The Trinamool Congress-ruled state witnessed 744 acts of crime in the year in reference, reported The Economic Times.

West Bengal was followed by Karnataka (175) and Himachal Pradesh (147), as per the NCRB data of 2018. However, the figure in Mamata Banerjee’s state was much higher than this in 2017 with 1,048 registered cases against foreigners.

The NCRB data also shows that the border state of West Bengal recorded highest number of cases (724) for violation of Registration of Foreigners Act, 1939 and The Foreigners Act, 1946 in 2018.

Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee has, however, refused to allow the implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and National Register of Citizens (NRC), which aims at filtering the illegal immigrants residing in the country, in her state.
