West Bengal Confirms First Case Of COVID-19; Patient Placed Returned From England On 15 March

As Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to widen its grip across the nation, the State of West Bengal on Tuesday (17 March) reported its first positive case, reports Times of India.

The patient who tested positive had recently travelled to England as per an official from the State's health department. The patient has been admitted to Kolkata's Beleghata ID Hospital after he had developed symptoms of COVID-19.

Thereafter, as tests confirmed that the patient had contracted the novel coronavirus, he was placed under isolation. The said patient is an 18-years-old male who had returned from England on 15 March.

Meanwhile, it should also be noted that as per the data made public by the Government of West Bengal, so far, 70 samples have been collected for tests of COVID-19 in total. However, the State has enlisted as many as 12,244 passengers in total for observation.
