Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which despite its rising influence in Bengal falls short of the Trinamool Congress (TMC)‘s grassroots machinery is finding help and support from ground workers of CPM while campaigning in certain parts of the state.

TMC which has formidable organisational machinery in the heartland is giving BJP a tough time in reaching out to the people, reports Times of India.

CPM which has been steadily losing its ground in the state has been fighting for survival and is making a desperate attempt in helping BJP to defeat its enemy Mamata and her party TMC.

It is claimed that BJP poll managers and CPM ground workers are holding regular meetings, plan door-to-door campaigns and keep a vigil at polling booths on election day. Like the BJP, the CPM is also said to be suffering at the hands of the ruling TMC.

Some CPM workers have also coined, 'Unishey half, Ekushey saaf' (Half in 2019 and saaf in 2021), which shows its plan to oust TMC out of Bengal by 2021 assembly elections.

Getting wary of the ground cooperation between BJP and TMC, Mamata Banerjee warned her party workers and kept saying “Harmads (referring to CPM workers) are doing it again, beware of them, they are helping our enemies, be careful, be alert.” at her rallies.

BJP found great help in CPM while fighting the elections in Kolkata Uttar constituency which has 1,862 polling booths. With BJP’s manpower and machinery covering less than 500 booths and unsigned pact both parties have given BJP candidate Rahul Sinha a fighting chance to a probable win over TMC MP Sudip Bandopadhyay.
