Former Union Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha on Saturday (13 March) joined the Trinamool Congress at the Trinamool Bhawan in Kolkata.

Weeks ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the 83-year-old former senior (Bharatiya Janata Party) BJP leader who had quit BJP back in 2018 said that he is joining a party and turning active as the country is going through “an extraordinary situation.”

"You must be surprised why at this age when I’d distanced myself from party politics. Why am I joining a party and turning active? I’d like to say the country is going through an extraordinary situation" he said.

Sinha alleged that while the BJP under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee believed in consensus, the party today believes in conquering, reports LiveMint.

"BJP during Atal Ji's time believed in consensus but today's government believes in crushing and conquering. Akalis, BJD have left the BJP. Today, who is standing with BJP?" he asked.
