The West Bengal Police have purportedly vandalised a temple situated in a village called Patharghata, near Kolkata’s New Town, reports My Nation.

The police, according to the locals, initially objected to playing loudspeaker at a religious function but things escalated quickly and they started destroying the temple. Following this, the villagers reportedly attacked the police.

As media reports, the police objected to playing loudspeaker at night. However, in spite of people switching off the speakers, the cops still came and started vandalising the temple and asked the revellers to pack up.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) zone one Rabindranath Banerjee and assistant commissioner of police (ACP) CP Animesh Ray reached the spot after noticing that the situation is getting out of the hand. Furthermore, they ordered an investigation into the matter and promised that the culprits would be punished.

According to the report, the state recently faced protest after some fanatics called for banning Saraswati Puja, honouring the goddess of culture, knowledge, and music.
