When Fires Freeze: Srinagar Witnesses Its Coldest Night In Three Decades With -7.6 Degree Celsius Temperature

Jammu and Kashmir’s capital Srinagar on 27 December witnessed a bone-chilling -7.6 degrees Celsius temperature. This is the lowest ever witnessed by Srinagar in 28 years. The previous lowest of -8.8 degree Celsius had it the city in 1990.
Water taps, ponds, lakes including the Dal lake and other water bodies in and around Srinagar remained frozen in the morning. Furthermore, the waterfall in Tangmarg in Gulmarg also froze.
Deputy Director of Kashmir’s Meteorological Department Mukhtar Ahmed alerted that the remaining nights of December will also be cold and night temperatures would hover between - 6 and -7 degrees Celsius.
Commenting on the possibility of a snowfall Ahmed said “There is a forecast for snowfall on January 2 and 3, but it’s for upper reaches of Kashmir” and denied any possibility of snowfall in December as per reports by New Indian Express.
Drass remained the coldest town in Jammu & Kashmir with -20.6 degree Celsius and the maximum being -8 degree Celsius while Katra recorded 3.7 degree Celsius temperature respectively.
