Tension prevailed in Bihar’s Rohtas district as a six-year old girl battles for her life after being raped on Tuesday (10 April), Business Standard has reported.

The accused, 25-year old Meraj Alam, was arrested by the police after the girl was reportedly found from his house in a bloodied condition. A crowd that had gathered around the house by then started protesting and demanded that the accused be hanged.

The accused had lured the victim, who was playing outside her house, on the pretext of giving her chocolates. After the crime, a crowd of almost 500 enraged locals surrounded the police station and protested by burning tyres and blocking National Highway - NH 30.

The latest case of rape of a minor comes amidst the ongoing controversy over the Kathua rape case where an eight-year old was the victim. The latest case is witnessing social media outrage with Twitterati condemning the alleged media silence on the Bihar case.

Meanwhile, the victim has been referred to Varanasi as her condition continues to be critical. Sensing trouble in the area, additional police forces have been deployed in the area as the accused remains in police custody.
