JNU Administration Buliding (G S Meena/Wikipedia)
Engineering students of Jawaharlal Nehru University are demanding accountability from the university, Press Trust of India has reported. They have written a letter to the chancellor demanding ‘accountability’ and ‘transparency’ for the fees they have paid.
“Their course had started with no school building, no lab facilities, no hostel facilities and other necessary facilities,” the JNUSU said. The students claim that they are facing difficulties right from the day of their admission. The JNU students union has supported the cause of these students.
“Their course had started with no school building, no lab facilities, no hostel facilities and other necessary facilities,” the JNUSU said. The students have also not got mess facilities in spite of paying an advance of Rs 10,000. The JNU administration has claimed that the mess advance was a ‘security amount’ that would be repaid after five years.
The report claimed that the university also charged Rs 5,000 as a security deposit and Rs 5,000 as establishment charges. Excluding tuition fees, an additional fee of Rs 6,000 has been collected for water, electricity and service charge.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
