The chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, slammed the country’s government yesterday (13 March) for the lack of action against terror groups in Pakistan which targeted other countries, reports India Today.

Bilawal is the son of former Pakistani prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who was also killed in a terrorist attack. He made the remarks while addressing journalists at the Sindh Assembly.

The opposition leader’s comments contrasted the punishment received by his mother and his father (former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari) and the absence of any action targeting outfits which had killed children in Pakistan and had launched terror attacks in foreign countries.

Continuing his scathing attack on the Prime Minister Imran Khan-led government, Bilawal asserted that at least three ministers from the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party had links to banned groups.

Khan had recently claimed that his government would not permit any terror groups to operate from Pakistani territory in order to carry out cross-border attacks; the Pakistani government had also launched what it claimed was a crackdown on banned militant organisations.

India-Pakistan relations have been unusually tense following a 14 February attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama which more than 40 soldiers were martyred. Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for the attack but the Pakistani government denied that its soil had been used for the attack.
