Will Ask Forces To Not Use Pellet Guns If There Is No Stone Pelting: Supreme Court
Kashmir’s stone-pelters are a bigger threat.
The Supreme Court of India today (28 April) said that it would ask the paramilitary forces to not use pellet guns for a period of two weeks if there was an assurance of stones not being pelted at the men in uniform.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice J S Khehar asked the petitioner, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association to give an undertaking that there would be no stone pelting, reported Live Law.
Representing the centre, Attorney General (AG) Mukul Rohatgi said that the government would not talk to the separatist leaders and those who speak of azaadi.
He said this when the apex court was hearing a petition against use of pellet guns in the state. The plea was filed by the petitioner before the Supreme Court after several stone pelters were injured allegedly by the use of pellet guns by the paramilitary last year.
