On Tuesday, Samajwadi Party leader Shivpal Yadav threatened to float a separate party after the Uttar Pradesh elections saying his party would take in leaders and workers sacked by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. A sentimental Shivpal stated:
How this party was built, how we formed the government, ask me…I will form my own party after March 11.
This statement comes a day after Shivpal filed his nomination as SP candidate from the Jaswantnagar seat, which has been with the Yadav family for the last 50 years. Shivpal clarified that he would not canvass for the Congress and those leaders who moved to other parties.
He also added that he didn’t want to contest the election but the workers persuaded him. The estranged leader came down heavily on Akhilesh Yadav government and targeted the ministers saying:
They’re busy in getting their photos clicked than working for the masses….
Shivpal even requested the people to forgive him for his absurdities.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
