With No Cases Of COVID-19 So Far, Sikkim Set To Reopen Educational Institutions From 15 June

With no confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported from the State so far, Sikkim is set to reopen the educational institutions from 15 June onwards, reports Economic Times.

According to the report, the state government has decided to reopen institutions in a phased manner, with sessions resuming for classes nine to university level from 15 June, while for the elementary and primary level, online classes will continue.

Sikkim’s Education Minister KN Lepcha said that the state government is now awaiting the standard operating procedures (SOPs) from the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development (HRD) and the NCERT, which would be followed accordingly.

As per the report, there will be no morning assemblies in the schools and classes will also be held on Saturdays. The state government is also planning to cut down on holidays for the ongoing academic calendar.

The schools in the Himalayan state have been closed since the middle of March in view of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the state has not reported any Covid-19 positive case so far.
