Union Minister for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy and Mines Piyush Goyal launched the GARV-II app on Tuesday (20 December). With this app, the second in the GARV installment, the government aims to provide all households across the country access to electricity.

Data for six lakh villages, with over 15 lakh habitations of 17 crore people, has been mapped for tracking progress on household electrification under GARV-II. The earlier GARV app, launched in October 2015, tracked the electrification progress of over 18,000 villages that were not electrified when the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance government came to power.

The status of village-wise work orders and the funds to state governments under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) are also available through GARV-II. The implementing agencies are expected to update the data every day. All the data would be released into the public domain for greater transparency and real-time progress.
