With Record 15,968 New Cases, India's Covid-19 Tally Reaches 4.56 Lakh; Death Toll Increases To 14,476

With the highest single-day spike of 15,968 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Covid-19 tally in India has surged to 456,183, the Union Health Ministry data revealed on Wednesday (24 June).

According to the Health Ministry, of the total, 183,022 are active cases while at least 258,685 people have been cured of the disease.

The number of Covid-19 death toll in the country has increased from Wednesday's 14,011 to 14,476, an increase of 465 in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra, which has emerged as the worst Coronavirus-hit state in the country, has so far recorded 139,010 cases, including 6,531 fatalities, and 69,631 recoveries. The Covid-19 tally in Delhi has crossed the 66,000-mark with as many as 66,602 cases recorded so far, second-highest tally in the country. Tamil Nadu followed with 64,603 cases. Gujarat has reported 28,371 cases so far.

States with most casualties after Maharashtra are Delhi (2,301), Gujarat (1,710), Tamil Nadu (833), Uttar Pradesh (588), West Bengal (580), and Madhya Pradesh (525).

States with more than 10,000 cases are Uttar Pradesh (18,893), Rajasthan (15,627), West Bengal (14,728), Madhya Pradesh (12,261), Haryana (11,520) and Andhra Pradesh (10,002).

Among other states/UTs where Corona cases have surged past 2,000-mark are Karnataka (9,721), Telangana (9,553), Bihar (8,153), Jammu and Kashmir (6,236), Assam (5,831), Odisha (5,470), Punjab (4,397), Kerala (3,451), Uttarakhand (2,535), Chhattisgarh (2,362) and Jharkhand (2,185).

According to the Health Ministry, 8,015 cases are being re-assigned to states.
