Superstar actor and newbie politician Rajinikanth on Saturday (29 June) called for taking up rain water harvesting (RWH) on a war footing to address the acute water shortage in the state of Tamil Nadu, reports Hindu Businessline.

The comments from Rajinikanth come at the backdrop of a massive on-going crisis in Chennai, in which the city has almost run out of water with all four major reservoirs supplying water to the city having gone dry.

Rajinikanth stressed, “As of now, immediate measures that need to be taken is saving rainwater. It should be on a war-footing mode. Then all water bodies, including lakes and ponds need to be desilted ahead of the monsoon season.”

The concerns over the situation in Chennai relating to acute water shortage had also been raised by Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio who had shared a post on Instagram with the title, “Only rain can save Chennai from this situation“.
