Congress president Rahul Gandhi has said that he wont utter a single word against CPM while campaigning in Wayanad, reports Hindustan Times.

Addressing the media after filing his nomination papers, Rahul said, “I understand that the CPM has to fight me. But I am not going to say a single word against CPM. I am here to send a message of unity”.

Rahul Gandhi was earlier criticised by the BJP for choosing to contest on a second seat along with Amethi, where he will be facing Union Minister Smriti Irani.

The CPM too has targeted Rahul Gandhi by alleging that he has joined hands with Muslim fundamentalists to defeat the BJP.

Though Smriti lost to Rahul in Amethi in 2014, she brought down the margin significantly. The Union minister has frequented Amethi over the course of the current government. Smriti alleged that Rahul Gandhi, despite being chosen thrice has betrayed Amethi.

In the 2009 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Congress candidate late M I Shanavas had emerged victorious from Wayanad LS seat. In 2009, his victory margin was 1,53,439 but in 2014 it came down to just 20,870. The seat is vacant now after Shanavas died six months ago.

As per the Congress, Rahul Gandhi’s Wayanad candidature is supposed to boost the party’s prospectus in Kerala and neighbouring states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
