Ahmedabad is set to become the home of the largest cricket stadium in the world, the New Indian Express reports. The construction of the stadium in Ahmedabad’s Motera area, which will boast of a seating capacity of more than 1 lakh, is underway.
The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) Vice-President Parimal Nathwani on Sunday (6 January tweeted photos of the progress of the stadium construction.
Nathwani said the stadium was a “dream project” of the state cricket board and after its completion, it will become a symbol of pride for the nation. According to the GCA, the stadium is being built over 63 acres and renowned architecture firm M/s. Populous has designed the stadium.
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 700 crore. The stadium, whose construction tender has been given to Larsen & Toubro (L&T), will also have three practice grounds as well as an indoor cricket academy.
The GCA report also adds that 3,000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers can be accommodated in the parking area.
“There will be a concourse to connect the entire stadium for pedestrian and vehicular movement. Moreover, the clubhouse will be equipped with 55 rooms and an Olympic size swimming pool,” the report quotes Nathwani as saying. The stadium will also have 76 corporate boxes, he adds.
