The dead body of a nun has been found in a well of a convent in Pathanapuram, Kollam district of Kerala, reports The Times of India.

Susan Mathew (54) of Orthodox Church Mount Tabor Dayara was found dead in the well near to the convent in Sunday (9 September). The police have taken a case for unnatural death as there is no clarity on whether it is a murder or a suicide.

The body of the deceased was found after the workers at the Mount Tabor convent found blood stains near the well and then noticed the body floating in the well.

Susan had been a teacher in the convent school for the past 12 years. Malankara Syrian-Orthodox church headquartered at Kottayam runs both the school and the convent.

According to the preliminary information collected from fellow nuns, police assume it is a case of suicide. Her colleagues have stated that Susan had refused to join the morning prayers on the day she died.

Earlier several convent nuns in Kerala's Kottayam took to the streets on Saturday (8 September) alleging police-bishop nexus in delaying the probe into a rape complaint filed by their colleague against a Roman Catholic church Bishop. The death of the nun today in Pathanapuram has taken the entire community by surprise.
